On Wednesday, Acer expanded its gaming and green PC portfolios with an array of Windows 11 devices, including those that prioritize antimicrobial protection. The company also announced a laptop aimed at designers who specialize in 3D modeling.

With the shift to hybrid work, Windows 11 represents a new era for the PC: an operating system that works how you work and is flexible, consistent and secure.

Acer launched a line-up of green PCs in its Vero series, including the Acer Aspire Vero laptop for consumers and the Acer TravelMate Vero laptop for businesses. From PCs to peripherals, Vero devices share certain green guidelines, such as utilizing post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic and shipping in recyclable packaging. Acer’s Vero devices have also been intentionally designed to be easy to disassemble, simplifying the process of repair or upgrade and ultimately increasing the devices’ lifespans.

Aspire Vero

The Aspire Vero chassis is composed of 30% PCR plastic, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 21% for the production of that part. The keycaps also contain 50% PCR plastic, and the Aspire Vero’s award-winning 100% recyclable packaging can be repurposed as a DIY laptop stand. Acer’s new VeroSense software gives you the option of selecting a usage mode optimized for energy efficiency and battery life.

The TravelMate Vero comes with an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB SSD, more than sufficient for the largest productivity tasks. This power is supported by enterprise-level security and manageability, while a Kensington lock slot provides physical protection for important data.

ConceptD 7 SpatialLabs Edition laptop

For developers and designers, Acer announced the ConceptD 7 SpatialLabs Edition laptop. The mobile workstation supports creators with Acer SpatialLabs, a suite of optical, display and sensory technologies with real-time rendering capabilities to deliver a glasses-free stereoscopic 3D experience. Sitting above the screen is a set of stereo cameras that track eye positions and the movements of a user’s eyes and head in order to display images in stereoscopic 3D. If a user rotates their head, the stereoscopic 3D image will adjust as if the user was looking around it. The computer comes equipped with a suite of AI technologies that perform tasks like stereo image generation, which gives users the ability to turn standard 2D content into stereoscopic 3D content. It’s also backed by the NVIDIA Studio ecosystem, featuring NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPUs with exclusive driver technology that enhances creative apps for optimal levels of performance and reliability.

Acer TravelMate Spin P4

Acer announced an expansion of its antimicrobial product portfolio, incorporating technology which lessens the need for regular alcohol scrubbing or specialized covers. Devices stay cleaner longer. Laptops with this protection, such as the Acer TravelMate Spin P4, are now available to a significantly wider range of users. A silver ion antimicrobial agent coats high-touch surfaces such as the chassis, keyboard, touchpad and more. Silver ions are highly reactive particles that dramatically reduce the growth rate of microbes upon contact. The Spin P4 comes with up to an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 vPro processor – which is more than sufficient to run several programs, webpages and spreadsheets at once, while up to 1 TB of M.2 SSD storage offers plenty of space for files and assets. It also has a spill-resistant keyboard, offering peace of mind during coffee-powered crunch periods. Its shock absorbent corners have been independently certified as meeting MIL-STD 810H impact resistance standards.

For gamers, Acer has expanded its Predator portfolio with new Predator Orion 7000 series desktops, two smart 4K gaming projectors (GD711 and DM712) and a Predator gaming desk that has two practical surface options and a convenient storage rack.

The new Predator Orion 7000 series gaming desktops are equipped with the latest 12th Gen Intel Core overclockable processors, up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 series GPUs and up to 64 GB DDR5-4000 RAM. Thin and curved fan blades on the three 2nd Gen Predator FrostBlade fans are designed to smoothly increase airflow without causing turbulence and to quickly dissipate heat. The fans’ wear-resistant and fully-sealed rifle bearings prevent lubricant leaks and the ingress of dust to maintain stability and extend the computer’s lifespan. Intel Killer 2.5G LAN gives gamers a competitive edge by detecting and prioritizing game traffic over other network traffic, resulting in smoother and faster connectivity for online games and streaming media.

The 55-inch Predator gaming desk provides ample room for a gaming system, monitor, accessories and more. Gamers can choose from two surfaces; one coated in an easy-to-clean, stylish carbon fiber or another covered with a custom-designed Predator mouse pad. Outfitted with ample storage, the Predator gaming desk comes with a rack for storing gamepads and/or cartridges, a headphone hook, a cup holder and a tray tucked in the back for AC adapters. It also has a headset cradle to save desk space, a cup holder to prevent spills and a cable management cutout on each side of the desk to keep cables organized and out of the way.

Players of Monster Legends can take advantage of a new feature to grow their monster collection and gain other rewards by coming back to the game daily.

Look for the new Blooming Tree in the game’s shop, then purchase it to activate the Bloom and get your instant gems reward. Then return the next day to collect your daily dose of gems, and keep coming back until the last day of blooming. Gems Bloom is active for 30 days after the purchase.

Also, players can now participate in the last event of the season: the Bounty Hunt. From Aug. 12 to Aug. 19, flip tiles to find the fugitive monster and defeat it. The more points you get in this event, the more leagues you will climb. Great rewards await players, especially at higher leagues: the new monster Goliathess is one of them.

Effective October 1, 2022, you will no longer be able to use Basic authentication to connect to Microsoft Exchange Online. If your organization uses server-side synchronization or the deprecated Dynamics 365 Email Router, you should find out now whether you need to prepare for the change.

How will removing Exchange Online Basic authentication affect Dynamics 365 and Power Apps?

After October 1, 2022, any connection to Exchange Online that uses server-side sync or the Dynamics 365 Email Router with Basic authentication (username and password) will quit working. Dynamics 365 mailboxes that use these connections will no longer be able to:

  • Send email from Dynamics 365 through Exchange Online
  • Retrieve email from Exchange Online
  • Synchronize appointments, contacts, or tasks between Dynamics 365 and Exchange Online

This change doesn’t affect connections that use Modern authentication (OAuth 2.0 token-based authorization).

How can I find out if I need to prepare?

If your company is using server-side sync or the Email Router to connect to Exchange Online using a username and password, you need to act. There are a couple of ways to find out whether your organization is affected and what you need to do if it is.

Review your Message Center Posts (recommended)

The fastest and most reliable way to know if you need to prepare and what to do is to look in the Microsoft 365 Message Center. (You must have admin rights to sign in to the Message Center.) The Exchange Online team has been sending monthly Message Center posts to all affected customers with the following title format: “Basic Authentication – Monthly Usage Report – 2022.”

If your organization is using server-side sync with Basic authentication, you may also have received Message Center posts from the Dynamics 365 or Power Apps services. Look for posts with the following title: “Impact due to Exchange Online disabling Basic Authentication.”

The posts provide detailed information about the change and actions you need to take before October 1.

Check your Dynamics 365 email settings

If you don’t find any posts in the Message Center, read our guide on how to check whether your organization is affected and if it is, what you need to do before October 1.
