How does it work in practice? Each of the steps is explained in more detail below.

Step one: select your approved used Toyota

From the home page of the Toyota UK website, click on the ‘Used Cars’ tab at the top of the page to be taken to the Used Cars chapter. As well as being able to explore the latest finance deals and multiple benefits of buying an approved used vehicle, this is the hub from which you can conduct your vehicle search.

The search facility allows you to identify results based on vehicle model, price banding or monthly payment, fuel type and distance from home. Each vehicle listing includes a selection of images, an overview of its equipment, and a comprehensive description.

Please note that even if Toyota retailers within your search radius do not have vehicles that match your criteria, you may be shown vehicles they have access to from Toyota Direct UK stock.

Step two: choose a payment option

After you have identified your perfect approved used Toyota, now is the time to decide how you will pay for it – outright or through a finance package tailored to suit your budget. Either way, this next step begins by pressing the ‘Vehicle Details & Finance’ button.

You will then be shown three options: buy online, calculate finance, or enquire by email. The first takes you through a one-off payment that allows you to buy the vehicle outright, while the second offers the possibility of configuring the payment schedule in order to spread the cost of the vehicle over a number of months or years.

Whichever payment method you plan to choose, it is also possible to include a vehicle in part-exchange at this stage. The process is explained in greater detail in this article.

Step three: complete your order online

With all the details now laid out in front of you, this step represents your final opportunity to make alterations to any finance agreement you may have commenced in the previous step. Once you are happy with either the outright payment figure or the duration and monthly cost of any finance arrangement, you can go ahead and follow the online checkout procedure.

For those taking out finance, it is only at this point that you must input your contact details so Toyota’s online retail team will be able to take you through some final identification checks and arrange for all forms and finance agreements to be e-signed.

Step four: receive your car

If you have arranged a part-exchange, you will be invited to have the vehicle officially appraised. In most cases, this is conducted in-person at the Toyota centre that is organising your approved used vehicle. However, under certain circumstances this appraisal can be carried out remotely by video call.
