At CES 2022, Lenovo introduced Windows 11 devices designed to meet the needs of a wide array of people, including creators, hybrid workers, gamers and environmentally conscious consumers.

A decade after Lenovo debuted its 360-degree flexible hinge design on the multi-mode Yoga 2-in-1 laptop at CES, the Yoga continues to span and stretch across form factors with the seventh generation of this defining line of laptops. For this 10th anniversary, the design language reboot shifts towards a new vertically flipped Yoga wordmark and includes curved edges for its convertibles, a gender-neutral color palette, more recycled materials and luxury finishes.

Lenovo Yoga 9i

A new 14-inch flagship convertible laptop is first up for 2022: the Lenovo Yoga 9i, co-engineered with Intel with a design to meet the requirements of an Intel Evo laptop delivering a super-fast boot up from virtually anywhere you use your laptop. More than just a multi-mode laptop that flips to tablet mode and back, this premium device delivers an enhanced audio experience via new speakers that pump up the loudness factor over the previous generation. But in addition to streaming and browsing with immersive sight and sound, it’s also got innovative features to keep up with today’s busy hybrid learning and working lifestyle.

Now it’s easier to open, with one hand, while an untraditional edge-to-edge keyboard design layout complements a bar of new 1-Click Function Keys with five additional shortcut keys marked with user-friendly icons for quick access to frequently used features, such as the background blur function that instantly helps to protect the privacy of your surroundings on video calls via Microsoft Teams.

ThinkPad Z13

Another hybrid work solution comes with the all-new ThinkPad Z13 and Z16, which reflects changing attitudes towards technology, its impact on the environment and the origins of raw components. It features more sustainable materials, such as 75% recycled aluminium and black vegan leather made from 100% recycled plastics (polyethylene terephthalate). Sustainability extends to the packaging, made from 100% recyclable and compostable bamboo and sugarcane. Even the AC power adapter was designed with intent, as it uses 90% Post-Consumer Content (PCC).

These will be the first laptops powered by the very latest AMD Ryzen PRO 6000 Series Mobile Processors with the Microsoft Pluton security processor. Building on a layered approach, AMD Ryzen 6000 Series is the first x86 processor to integrate the Microsoft Pluton security processor to help even more with chip-to-cloud protection. The Microsoft Pluton security processor is designed to help defend against new, sophisticated attacks and offer continuous protection of user identity, data and applications.

ThinkPad X1

Enterprise businesses, long familiar with the ThinkPad X1, will find new additions to that portfolio, including a milestone X1 Carbon 10th Gen, X1 Yoga 7th Gen and the lightest ThinkPad ever: the X1 Nano 2nd Gen. All models now support 12th Gen Intel Core P-series processors that offer a significant leap in performance from previous generations. All powered by Windows 11, they are optimized for hybrid workers and professionals who seek higher levels of performance, better camera and audio capabilities for more immersive collaboration, and a more secure laptop to protect them from the daily demands of hybrid working.

A key design feature is the new communications bar that integrates improved FHD webcam options, Privacy Shutter and 360-degree far field quad-array microphones. With this design, there is a camera with a larger sensor than what is usually found on laptops that increases image quality, especially in low light conditions.

ThinkBook Plus Gen 3

Also available in 2022 for small and medium-sized businesses, all powered by 12th Gen Intel Core processors running Windows 11: the new ThinkBook Plus Gen 3, with a 17.3-inch ultra-wide 21:10 aspect ratio primary display with an 8-inch secondary screen for multitasking and more space to take advantage of Windows 11 Snap layouts. And with an updated ThinkBook 13x Gen 2, there’s an option to include a ThinkBook Wireless Multi-Device Charging Mat. The ThinkBook 14 Gen 4+ i and a new ThinkBook 16 Gen 4+ i include thinner designs, 16:10 aspect ratio displays, larger glass touchpads and smarter features. Time of Flight (ToF) sensors work in coordination with the FHD Infrared webcam to detect user presence, enabling zero touch login through Windows Hello and lock on leave. They can even automatically adjust screen brightness and keyboard backlight.

On the play side, Lenovo’s first batch of Windows 11 gaming laptops for 2022 come equipped with next-gen processors from AMD Ryzen or Intel Core and up to latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX Laptop GPUs. These include the esports-centric 16-inch Lenovo Legion 5i Pro and Lenovo Legion 5 Pro laptops and the more mainstream 15-inch Lenovo Legion 5i and Lenovo Legion 5 laptops.

Lenovo Legion 5i Pro

Inspired by gamer research, these new devices were refreshed with an uncluttered wordmark design, expressive venting and immersive lighting, paired with exclusives beloved by Legion fans such as the advanced thermals of next-level Legion Coldfront 4.0 that now offers noise suppression as one of its many attributes.

Tuned for esports, the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro and Lenovo Legion 5 Pro cooling system includes an updated fan system, larger exhaust area and improved penta heat pipe layout that efficiently ushers air to lower skin temperatures. Smarter noise canceling happens to also be a shared obsession with Nahimic Audio by SteelSeries. Designed for hardcore gamers, Nahimic Audio on Lenovo Legion laptops delivers professional-level sound tuning and audio effects via a precise 10-band equalizer that lets gamers personalize their game’s sound frequencies.

Both Lenovo Legion 5i and Lenovo Legion 5 have the new Legion Spectrum RGB Lighting solution, a 4-zone backlighting effects system developed by Lenovo and built into the Legion TrueStrike keyboard.

At some point, we’ve all experienced regret over not doing something.

Opportunity passes us due to our over analysis, indecision, and uncertainty. Even though we’ve all done this, we rarely seek the advice of others, thinking our situation is somehow unique or different.

This rationale is common among the on-premises organizations we speak to. They understand the benefits for moving to the cloud but chose to focus on all the reasons not to—aging infrastructure, manual processes, and siloed data notwithstanding.

Hearing how others are approaching this critical technological evolution can be invaluable. Not to mention relatable. Here are a few customer stories we’ve collected; perhaps you might recognize yourself or the circumstances?

Discover other Dynamics AX and Dynamics CRM customer stories to learn about migration best practices and the benefits others are seeing in the cloud.

A small company with sizeable goals

Sonee Sports, is a small 28-year-old, family-run retail chain in the Maldives. The company moved its Microsoft Dynamics AX to Dynamics 365 in the cloud to streamline its resource planning, point of sale, and relationship management activities. Sonee Sports has grown from a single desk in a hardware store to 10 stores across the Maldives however, this growth didn’t come without challenges, particularly when it came to technology.

Maumoon Abdullah, Sonee Sports’s co-founder, has long advocated for using technology to understand, retain, and engage new customers. “In 2016, we had a customer churn rate of 10 percent—not good. We knew that technology was key to keeping our business afloat,” Abdullah said. However, their previous enterprise resource planning (ERP) took hours to generate reports, the data was inaccurate, so decision makers stopped using it. In time, Sonee Sports realized it had to move its entire business to the cloud.

With help from Mumbai-based CloudFronts, a Microsoft Partner Network partner, Sonee Sports upgraded to Microsoft Dynamics 365, deployed Microsoft Power BI for analytics, and rolled out a cloud-based e-commerce system. “We needed an all-around ERP system that was reliable, easy to use, and mobile-friendly and that offered a host of options for accessing information. Dynamics 365 Retail fits these criteria very well.” Abdullah says.

With this setup, Sonee Sports has cut its IT maintenance costs by 38 percent and improved customer retention by over 8 percent.

“With Dynamics 365, we finally have the data we need to understand our customers.” Abdullah says. “The value of this is priceless.”

A growing city with changing needs

It can be easy to forget that cities are a lot like corporations—they provide services to their “customers,” often relying on technology to deliver the goods.

Bristol is a diverse city in southwest England, with more than 90 languages spoken and a population of just over 463,000. Bristol City Council is the unitary authority and is responsible for a wide range of services including taxation, waste management, education, etc. Like many struggling municipalities, Bristol City Council felt it could no longer rely on its IT system to meet day-to-day demands of the city. Its systems weren’t agile or mobile-friendly and lacked a unified platform to support collaboration or leverage data insights.

“The council was historically, deeply dissatisfied with its IT systems and processes.” says Simon Oliver, Director of Digital Transformation at Bristol City Council.

Bristol City Council realized the only way forward was to modernize its Dynamics CRM 2016 instance to Dynamics 365, which would improve efficiency and collaboration. Moving, however, was a significant undertaking, involving migrating 54 workloads and orchestrating nearly 500 ecosystem partners, and staff.

Built on Microsoft Azure, with Microsoft Power Platform and Office 365, Bristol City Council deployed Dynamics 365 alongside toolsets to increase productivity. “Working with Microsoft has given us an opportunity to look at our entire approach to delivering IT services, to reshape our way of thinking and the culture of the IT department,” explains Oliver.

An industry leader looking to drive purpose

Peet Limited, a leader in Australia’s property industry, believes in helping people gain peace of mind through property ownership. And their commitment to IT innovation has enabled them to remain competitive through market disruptions.

As part of its ongoing mission to offer quality service, the company partnered with Microsoft to upgrade its IT systems and move critical line-of-business applications to the cloud. Justyn Bridge, IT Manager at Peet Limited, explained, “Microsoft 365 is a complete, intelligent solution…it empowers Peet employees to be creative and work together.” Peet Limited had confidence in Microsoft because the organization was already using both Dynamics CRM and Dynamics AX, for its customer relationship management (CRM) and ERP, respectively.

Peet Limited designed its cloud strategy around security with the goal of end-to-end protection in mind; for them, security promoted value. Bridge explains that one of the best benefits of using Microsoft 365 is having a “single pane of glass” to view Peet Limited’s security landscape. Using Microsoft’s Advanced Threat Analytics, Peet Limited had a succinct, real-time view of an attack timeline with the ability to analyze and identify normal versus suspicious user or device behavior.

Considering the project, Bridge notes, “We sought better end-to-end protection, and Microsoft 365 gave us that. Our business has gained security in both protection and mindset.”
